It has been one century since the sinking of the Titanic. As you know, James Cameron and company re-released “Titanic” in 3D. Today, my friends and I went to see the re-release and I have to say…that damn movie get me every time.
My top three most unforgettable scenes from the film include:
- When Jack and Rose attend that sweet party below deck. I felt they really bonded while dancing their faces off.
- When Rose is going down in the lifeboat but jumps back onto the sinking ship to be with Jack a little bit longer. Then that flare goes off in the background. Tears, tears and more tears.
- Finally, the most memorable scene is when Jack and Rose get it in…obviously.
To commemorate “Titanic” in 3D I would like to share the one song that makes me weep within the first 5.9 seconds.
Damn you Celine!
Did you think I missed the hallowed day known as Topless Tuesday? Well have no fear…Kari is here!
I thought I would mix it up this week and post about this particular gentleman on Topless Wednesday instead of the typical Tuesday. This man is just that special…he has earned his own topless day of the week.
If you have been missing in action for the past few weeks, I’ll fill you in on the most important thing you may have missed. “Titanic” was released in 3D!
Personally, I’ve been waiting 15 years for this moment and in four days I will be sitting in the movie theatre with my sweet, sweet 3D glasses on experiencing “Titanic” like never before. Yes, I realize that I am a tad late in getting my behind to the movies…blame it on the #GradSchoolProblems.
Let’s be real…who doesn’t want to see a three-dimensional shot of Kate and Leo getting intimate on the bow of that majestic ship? You all know my answer.
Anywho, Leo is an extremely well-known actor that has starred in many amazing films such as, “The Aviator,” “Revolutionary Road,” and “The Departed.” Instead of giving a brief biography on Mr. DiCaprio, I’ve decided to share some unique facts about this beautiful man:
- Leo’s middle name is Wilhelm
- His film debut was in the groundbreaking 1991 film “Critters 3“
- Leo’s parents decided on the name Leonardo because his mother first felt Leo kick in the womb while she was gazing at a Leonardo Da Vinci painting
- Mr. DiCaprio originally turned down the roll of Jack Dawson in “Titanic.” Director James Cameron convinced him to sign on and thank God he did
- Leo recently bought an island in Belize which he plans to build an eco-friendly resort on…he’s a big fan of the Earth
On a final note, I just want to mention that I am still on Team Kate & Leo 4ever. I really don’t understand why they are continuously slapping cupid in the face and denying their love. Therefore, I’m taking donations in order to create Team Kate & Leo 4ever T-shirts for everyone.
Leo – The rapper Drake has stated in the past: “It must be hard to be that fine” in his song “Make Me Proud.” I think he’s talking about you boo!
Since I wasn’t the best at picking the Oscar winners, I think I’ll give it a shot at picking some of the best dressed stars at the 84th annual Academy Awards.
On another note, was anyone else wondering where Kate Winslet was?! She’s probably prepping for the rerelease of “Titanic” in 3D…I know I am!
I loved this dress! Just like everything else, it fit Cameron like a glove and her arms look like she has been lifting soup cans on overtime. Good choice girl!
*You can creep on Natalie Portman’s polka-dot dress in the background.
Meryl shined in gold…just like the Oscar statue she took home for “The Iron Lady” last night. When I saw this dress, I likened it to something a woman living in Rome during the Julius Caesar era would wear. It just works.
The well-deserved Best Supporting Actress winner sparkled in this beautiful dress. It’s versatile…you could wear this to da club or a classy event.
Oh Pharrell…he played the drums at the big show and I was all about it. I think the only thing that would have made his tux better was if he paired it with a trucker hat.
That’s all for me folks! What were your picks for best dressed last evening?
Today is a day for celebration. Why you ask? 36 years ago today… Kate Winslet was birthed!
Hopefully your company and/or institute of higher learning gave you the day off…it is a national holiday afterall. I will also make the argument that many companies and schools close up shop for December 25th in honor of another birthday…you know who I’m talking about. It’s only fair that we have Kate’s bday off.
Born and raised in Berkshire, England, Winslet is one of four children. Kate has been crafting her acting skills since she was a child. 1991 was when Kate made her acting debut on British television. The first film that Kate graced with her presence was “Heavenly Creatures” in 1994.
You may have seen this fantastical woman in such films as “Titanic” (personal favise), “The Reader,” “The Holiday” and the list goes on and on and on. She also won some pretty big awards in her time. Kate has a Golden Globe, an Oscar and an Emmy on her mantle. I’m starting the Kate Winslet wins a Tony campaign on Friday…send me a smoke signal if you want to join the revolution.
She has many other talents besides acting. Kate is a cool mom, a sweet tap dancer, a lifesaver and is totally okay with flashing her lady lumps on the big screen. You go girl!
P.S. Winslet and her breasts have been endorsed by Oprah…need I say more?
Dear Kate – you are a classy and unforgettable woman… I hope you are partying your face off today. Call me if you need a designated driver.Hopefully you will see Leo in his birthday suit tonight! Love – Kari
Now the time has come for the favises moments of the Emmys. Besides every winner bringing up the countdown while giving their acceptance speeches, the following moments will be burned into my mind for days to come. Let’s be real, Lohan will probably get drunk and hit a tree and I’ll be focused on that…wait a minute!
While I felt like this Emmy moment could have gone south at any point in time, Charlie actually kept it together and did what a grown up would do.
Don’t get me wrong; I thoroughly enjoyed Sheen’s tirades about tiger blood, a drug called Charlie Sheen and cocaine. But I kinda like the sober Sheen. He’s classy, nice and doesn’t look like his heart is about to burst out of his chest.
Before Sheen presented the award for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series (his old category), Charlie decided to give a shout out to his old “Two and a Half Men” co-stars. “From the bottom of my heart, I wish you nothing but the best for this upcoming season,” Sheen said.
Charlie – Keep it sober. When you do, you are “Winning!” But if/when you need a career boost, go on another bender…with proper supervision of course!
Recently I saw Guy in “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark,” starring alongside the one, the only Katie Holmes (she is the only person who could get me to go see a scary movie…yes, I did pee and spill my popcorn on the fool next to me).
I was quite surprised to find out that Guy was in “Mildred Pierce.” I was probably in a Kate Winslet trance again.
I was excited that he won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie. I have yet to see “Mildred Pierce,” but I’m 100.9% positive this movie is epic…duh Rose Dawson is in it.
I’m going to make a decision…decision made: Guy had the best acceptance speech of the evening. Why you ask?
Guy stated, “This was really a delightful experience making ‘Mildred Pierce,’ I got to have sex with Kate Winslet many, many times. I didn’t realize it was going to result in this. So Kate, I share this with you, because you’re an extraordinary woman. Thank you for allowing me to insert myself into your world and Mildred.”
Guy – I love your first name – I love your sexy nerd glasses – I love that you are okay with announcing your sexual exploits…p.s. ditch the wife.
You knew this was coming. Without question…the b.e.s.t moment of the night was when Kate Winslet’s name was called for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie.
My reaction – I threw up and blacked out in an ecstatic seizure. Thankfully, I woke up in time for her acceptance speech.
Obviously this win was a no-brainer…Kate has an Oscar and a Golden Globe. This Emmy is probably just serving a paperweight.
Favises quote of Kate’s acceptance speech: “Oh wait I really did win it.” Our “Titanic” diva also dedicated the award to her mom…so I am dedicating this post/my life’s work to my mom (Hi Carol)!
Btw Kate – I did notice that you almost had a nip slip on stage…just remember, if that ever happens it won’t be a big deal…you’re Kate Winslet!
She had a beautiful red dress, a beautiful accent and a beautiful everything. See you at the Oscars.
Kate Winslet & Leo DiCaprio
For my final installment of the celebs who would match on Match.com series, I have chosen…Kate and Leo. Not a big surprise and I’m pretty sure I’m starting to sound like a broken record. Why do I keep bringing this up? I just don’t understand why these two soul mates are punching Cupid in the face and denying their love. I would like some answers, that’s all.
We first saw this meant to be pair in the most epic film of our time…“Titanic.” I’m going to guestimate here, I believe 1 in every 2.3 people have seen this movie. Therefore, I don’t feel the need to delve into that part of their relationship. But I will link to a clip because I have given a lot of my time to this film, so I believe everyone else should as well.
I do have to get this off my chest…Kate – I hope you flubbed the “Jack, I’m flying” scene many times (on purpose) for the sole fact that you could continually make out with Leo in that position. If you’d like to call me and fill me in on the hot gossip, I’d be willing to listen.
Fast-fowarding to 2009, Kate won a Golden Globe for her role as April in “Revolutionary Road.” If you haven’t heard of this film, I will give you a brief background. First and foremost, Leo played Kate’s husband in the film…I really wish they would stop pretending already. Anywho, this film chronicled the budding romance and marriage between Frank Wheeler (Leo) and April Wheeler (Kate). Warning: It’s pretty depressing and will probably make you reconsider marriage in the future.
Back to the Golden Globe…Kate gives a shout out to Leo and says, “Leo, I’m so happy I can stand up here and tell you how much I love you and how much I’ve loved you for 13 years…” The camera shoots to Leo and he blows Kate not one, but two kisses.
While promoting “Revolution Road,” these two lovers have said wonderful things about each other:
- Kate told “Entertainment Weekly,” ”I hadn’t realized how much my chemistry with [Leo] since `Titanic’ would still stick. It’s great to discover we can just slip right into it (hehe), like muscle memory.”
- Leo told “Esquire,” “Kate Winslet is one of my dearest friends. We have the ultimate trust in each other and the best intentions for what we want to do. I knew Kate before Sam even met her.”
Now we all know the Best Actress Oscar curse is real and it inevitably snuck up on Kate. Shortly after her big Oscar win, Kate and her husband (Sam) announced they were splitting up. Guess who was there for Kate through the sad times…Leo!
First Date Location: Maybe wining and dining on a yacht…they could make out shamelessly on the bow of the ship. Since Kate is a classy lady, Leo would drive/escort her home. We all know how much Kate likes backseats…oops can’t say that!
I really don’t think I have to give any more evidence as to why these two need to man up and admit their undying devotion to each other. If necessary, I will go to church and light a candle everyday for you two. Someone let me know if I need to do that.
As I mention in an earlier post, “Titanic” is the one and only movie that can stop me from pretty much anything I am doing. In the past, this film has halted many activities such as: walking, breathing, blinking and even hitting the town on a Saturday night. If you know me, you know that’s a pretty big deal. I figured I would need a love story for the island and “Titanic” gives the love and so much more.
Debuting in 1999, this “epic romance and disaster film” caused a tsunami at the box office, grossing $1.8 billion worldwide. One of the pieces that makes this movie puzzle complete is the cast…mainly Leo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.
DiCaprio played Jack Dawson – a poor young gentleman/artist who saves Rose and falls for her the moment he lays eyes on that ginger beauty (and/or when he sees Rose wearing her birthday suit). Winslet played Rose DeWitt Bukater – a 19-year-old who is en route to America in order to marry her fiancé, Cal. She meets Jack while trying to jump off the back of the boat. Obviously, the engagement to Cal wasn’t going too well.
The film follows the budding relationship of Rose and Jack. Then BAM! The ship hits a friggin’ iceberg and shit gets real.
You may be wondering why I would choose this film out of all the other love stories out there. Here are my reasons:
- Kate Winslet gave us ladies a new way to piss off your current boyfriend…by getting your new boyfriend to draw you naked and then give the drawing to the boyfriend you dislike.
- Kate Winslet also gave us females a new way to seduce our new bf. Scene: Rose and Jack are in backseat of car and Rose states, “Put your hands on me, Jack.” Now that’s classy.
- Celine Dion delivered an amazing song to bust out at karaoke night…”My Heart Will Go On.” Yes, I have rolled all my Honda windows down and exclaimed every single lyric…don’t pretend you haven’t.
- This film gave us a new activity to participate in. If you have ever been on a boat, you most likely have tried to climb up the bow of the ship and scream, “I’m the king of the world.”
“Titanic” has made me permanently afraid to go on a booze cruise. Even if it is in the warmest of climates, I will not blink in case there is an iceberg just waiting to bring my ship down. I will also sleep/shower/drink with a life vest on at. all. times!
Below is a clip of my favises scene in the movie and before you assume…no, it’s not the part when Rose thrusts her hand against the glass. That is in the top 3 of course. Favises quote: “You jump I jump, right?”
BTW – I will be sailing to the movie theatre on April 6, 2012 for the rerelease of “Titanic” in 3-D!!!! And Leo – This message is for you. Put a ring on Kate’s finger…everyone knows you are soul mates.
Kate Winslet – Superhero
Even though she was already a superhero in my eyes, Kate Winslet has made it officially okay to walk around this Earth with a cape on for the rest of her life.
The Academy Award winner was taking some much deserved time off with her children and her new bf (Leo, he’s just a fill-in until you are ready). They were vacationing at Richard Branson’s Caribbean home, Great House on Necker Island.
Branson stated that the fire broke out around 4 a.m. during a tropical storm. Kate, Louis (her bf) and her children Mia and Joe all made it out unharmed. Along with the Winslet clan, there were 16 others staying at the Branson house. The culprit – lighting is to blame for completely destroying the home.
So why is Kate a superhero in all of this? Well, she carried Eve, Branson’s 90-year-old mother out of the burning house! Winslet told The Sun, “I’m just so glad that everyone is safe. And this very easily could not have been the case.”
I have made a decision, decision made: Kate Winslet must be a bionic woman. Not only does she carry people out of burning buildings, she also can swim her heart out and survive in sub-zero temperatures…remember that boat she was on that sank?
Kate – you are officially my favises superhero. Keep saving lives and keep winning Oscars.
A third Mini Affleck is on the way!
This week Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck told the world that they are having baby number tres (check out my bilingual skills). A very surprising but exciting announcement!
Now I have to hand it to Jennifer. This is her third baby! That means this is her third time being pregnant. I always make the mistake of watching those shows on birthing children and they scare the living daylights out of me. I always think to myself, “you don’t come back from that.” Discovery Health channel likes to make every woman on Earth paranoid and televise shows like, “I Didn’t Know I was Pregnant.” I am about three episodes away from starting a petition to stop this show from ruining lives! No woman wants to sit there and think, “Am I pregnant right now?” Holy crow!
Okay, done with that tirade. The 3rd mini Affleck is expected to arrive in January or February. The Affleck’s are said to be “thrilled” to be expecting their third child. I wonder if they will finally get a Ben Jr. or stick with the lady gender. I really think this world could use a mini Ben Affleck…Suri Cruise will one day be looking for a husband.
Jennifer – In the fall, I am taking a class called Event Planning. By the time you are ready for your baby shower, I will be fully trained. I’ll send you my business card. Congrats!
Lohan rebuffs Pitbull
Lindsay Lohan has lawyer’d up. Why? Because Pitbull has a single out right now called, “Give Me Everything.” I’m sure you have heard it; it’s played approximately every 4.3 minutes somewhere in the world. There is one particular phrase that mentions the one, the only…Lindsay Lohan. The line is as follows: “I got it locked up like Lindsay Lohan.”
Well I guess Lindsay didn’t take this as a complement and she decided to file a lawsuit against Pitbull! Apparently Lohan and her legal team are claiming that this is defaming her character and blah, blah, blah. Lindsay, remember that time you were, in fact, locked up? I remember, I even won $18 in my office pool for guessing what day you would be released.
My favorite part of this tale is when Lindsay was at Kim Kardashian’s wedding and the band played this exact song! It was reported that many of Kim’s guests got up and danced, but Lindsay remained a Debbie Downer and stayed seated…boo you whore.
In an attempt to smooth things over, Pitbull has invited Lindsay to this Sunday’s VMAs, where he will be performing “Give Me Everything.” According to MTV.com, Pitbull states, “But either [way], I said, ‘You know what? Performing it at the VMAs, would like to invite her out,’ ” he continued. “And anybody who knows my reputation [knows I] don’t do no publicity stunts. I’m not really about none of that. … So I said it, I meant it, and if she takes it, great. If she doesn’t, cool. But she will have her tickets at will call.”
I don’t understand…Lindsay sues this beautiful Cuban man and still gets a date out of the deal. Ugh. Lindsay, please don’t sue me…I own nothing.
I have noticed that a major difference between graduate and undergraduate classes is that in a grad program (or mine at least) you have a bit more freedom in what paper/assignments you take on.
I’m currently enrolled in Science & Technical Photo. As a class, we are learning the basics about cameras, lighting, aperture, etc. As our final project, we get to choose a photographer to profile and delve into their methods of taking pictures.
I have chosen Annie Leibovitz…big surprise there. Her name caught my eye because she is well known for snapping all those familiar faces we call celebrities. I watched a documentary on Annie and she sees photographs at capturing moments in time. That is a unique way of looking at photos, especially the ones we take of our friends at the bar. One day we will look back and say “remember when we could stay out will 4 and be at work by 9?
With this post, I wanted to share some of my fav pics that Annie has captured and made us feel that we are a part of the same moment.
If you go to NYC, this image is probably one that wouldn’t be to hard to replicate in real life. Except Sarah Jessica Parker would have her real life husband, Ferris Bueller hold her very expensive luggage, instead of Chris Noth. Because that’s what independent woman do.
Do you think celebrities really hang out like this in their off time? P.S. remember when Kate Winslet was in “Titanic?!”
In continuing with Titanic theme…
I have made a decision…decision made. I will watch the World Cup for the rest of my life.
I could probably make this post the longest blog post in the history of blog posts because Annie has captured so many amazing moments on film. All you have to do is Google her name and you can see her 30+ years of work. Thank you for the memories, Annie. You are unforgettable.
